Nationwide fuel waiver will
continue through September 15
WASHINGTON (09/06/05) -- Responding
to gasoline supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina, U.S. EPA Administrator
Stephen L. Johnson used his power under the Clean Air Act, last week, to
waive the requirement to sell "summer gasoline" which contains a lower
volatility limit. His action allowed the early use of wintertime gasoline.
Johnson also took action to allow the use of diesel fuel which exceeds
500 ppm sulfur content.
Both waivers went into effect,
immediately, on August 31 and will continue through September 15, 2005.
The waivers apply to all 50 states, U.S. territories and the District of
Columbia.
The waivers only apply to
volatility standards - the rate at which fuel evaporates - and the amount
of sulfur in fuel.
