William Burke reappointed to California's 
South Coast AQMD Governing Board

DIAMOND BAR, CA (09/28/05) -- William A. Burke, Ed.D. has been reappointed to a four-year term on the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Governing Board by the Speaker of the California  Assembly Fabian Nuñez. His new term begins on Jan. 15, 2006 and ends on Jan. 15, 2010.

Burke, one of the longest-tenured members and chairmen of the AQMD Board, has served nearly three full terms since he was first appointed to the post in September 1993 by then-Speaker of the Assembly Willie Brown Jr.

"I am looking forward with great enthusiasm to serving another four years on the AQMD Board," Burke said.  "We have accomplished a great deal in the last decade, but we also have an enormous challenge ahead of us if we are to succeed in cleaning up the Southland’s smog.  I really appreciate the confidence placed in me by the Speakers of the Assembly that have appointed me."

Burke serves as the Speaker of the Assembly appointee to the 12-member AQMD Board.  The other 11 members include three elected officials from Los Angeles County, two each from Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, one member appointed by the Governor and one by the Senate Rules Committee.

AQMD is the air pollution control agency for Orange County and major portions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
