i2 and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Partner to Offer Environmental Compliance Technologies for Electronics Companies

SANTA CLARA, CA (01/27/05) -- i2 Technologies, Inc. (OTC:ITWO), a leading provider of demand-driven solutions designed to enable business agility, today announced that Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is working with i2 to combine the unique strengths of both companies to provide an extended service offering primarily targeted at assisting manufacturers to self-declare compliance with European Union Directive 2002/95/EC, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). The combination of i2's database solutions and UL's Restricted Substance Compliance Solutions (RSCS) services can benefit both original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers. The announcement was made in conjunction with i2's High Technology Industry Summit, "Creating the Agile Enterprise," held at the Westin Santa Clara Hotel today.

Companies like Sun Microsystems welcome the i2 and UL partnership. "Product manufacturers like Sun are being challenged by the impact and aggressive timeline of the emerging environmental directives. We cannot afford to put any product revenue at risk by not fully complying with these regulations," said David Towne, RoHS program director at Sun Microsystems. "We welcome and encourage the efforts of companies like i2 and UL to provide the industry with this much-needed service, which is a valuable extension to the work we are already doing. Accuracy and time-to-compliance are critical, and we believe an offering like this will benefit both."

UL's RSCS Program helps companies self declare compliance with national and global restricted substances regulations, including the RoHS directive. The program leverages UL's extensive worldwide resources to help manufacturers address the challenges of compliance with through testing of homogenous products, database access to RSCS data and surveillance.

Manufacturers distributing products in Europe must be able to self-declare that their products adhere to specified limits on the six identified restricted substances by July 1, 2006. A manufacturer's declaration of compliance of its products is often based on its component supplier declarations that include substance levels and/or an assertion of compliance). It is critical that product compliance assertions be accurate, since any product found to be out of compliance may expose the manufacturer to fines, potential significant loss of revenue, and a tarnished brand image. Manufacturers are advised to rely on the declarations of its suppliers but to also augment that with analytical checks to help the manufacturer verify the accuracy of those declarations.

With the combined strengths of i2's database solution and UL's RSCS service, the companies can provide an offering to help businesses combat the challenges associated with RoHS compliance. UL has a long history of performing independent analytical testing making the company uniquely qualified to assist manufacturers in validating their suppliers' declarations of compliance with the RoHS directive. UL can provide businesses with the analytical laboratory testing on the homogenous materials that components are made of and then provide the results to i2. Data is then aggregated as an additional, value-added extension of i2's existing RoHS database and content services. This combination of analytical testing and database content represents an extended service offering for the industry to assist manufacturers to meet the requirements of the RoHS directives.

"To my knowledge, this is the only such offering available in the market today," states Peter Lachapelle, i2 vice president, Content and Supplier Relationship Management. "i2's electronics component database is already known for its accuracy based on our ISO-9001 certified quality processes. Now by adding UL RSCS data based on UL independent testing, we can offer a new level in mission critical content."

"UL has been a leader in testing and compliance assurance for more than 100 years," states Max Elbaz, General Manager, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. "Analytical testing is the only way for product manufacturers to confidently self-declare the accuracy of their product compliance. We are very excited to be teaming with i2 to provide this valuable service to the electronics industry, which is currently facing new environmental regulations that begin to take effect this year."

i2 and UL intend to co-market and reference-sell UL's RSCS Program and i2's RoHS database solutions beginning in the first quarter of 2005.
