MWH and Pasadena Water & Power to Design Enterprise GIS Program

PASADENA, CA (08/15/06) -- The City of Pasadena Water & Power Department has awarded an enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) program management contract to MWH, a global environmental engineering, program management and construction firm.

Under the terms of the contract, MWH will serve as the overall program manager and lead implementer in coordination with Pasadena Water & Power for this $5.5 million, 21-month program designed to help the City gain valuable insight into the lifecycle management of its water and power asset base.

Pasadena Water & Power has been a staple of Pasadena's electric industry for a century. Established in 1906, the Department provides reliable electrical services to over 160,000 Pasadena residents. This community-owned electric company strives for consistent service to this rapidly growing community.

"The implementation of the enterprise GIS will facilitate the timely and accurate capture, documentation and distribution of network asset information to the entire workforce, enabling us to improve customer service, upgrade water and power infrastructure and meet performance levels established by key stakeholders," said Casty Fortich, Pasadena Water & Power Project Manager. "Partnering with MWH, an experienced and proven program manager, makes us confident that the overall outcome of this project will be a positive one that will ultimately help us to better serve our community and customers."

"We are pleased to have another opportunity to collaborate with Pasadena Water & Power," said Timothy Gallagher, MWH Program Manager. "Their dedication to the community and our long-standing presence in Pasadena ensures this project will create the best benefit to the citizens of Pasadena."

The program is divided into four major tasks: Program Management, System Architecture, Data Conversion and GIS Application Implementation. MWH was selected to perform all the major tasks in conjunction with the City. Completion is expected in December 2007.

This work will provide Pasadena's community and the City with the ability to enable and support efficient, long-term electrical management, upgrade water and power infrastructure and meet other competitive challenges. In addition, the project will provide the City and the Water & Power Department with improved customer service on top of their strong, century-long commitment to their customers.

This program follows the successful completion of a master plan by MWH in 2004 for the utility. The MWH team includes sub-consultants ESRI, Inc., DCSE, Inc., Analytical Surveys, Inc., and Miner & Miner Consulting Engineers, Inc.

MWH has served the Pasadena area for more than 50 years, and employs more than 220 local people.
